What is Inclusive Access (IA)?

Inclusive Access is a textbook model developed in collaboration with publishers that converts books into digital content at a cost less than that of a traditional print book. Students in the course will be billed for the content the week before the semester begins and will have access on the first day of class. Inclusive Access can be an e-book only or an e-book with an interactive learning platform that allows users to complete quizzes, homework, and watch videos, among other activities.

What is included in Inclusive Access?

Inclusive Access includes an e-book and courseware if used.

How do students access their Inclusive Access titles?

Students access their Inclusive Access by clicking on the link that the instructor sets up in Brightspace.

What if a student drops or adds a course after the term starts?

If a student drops a course after the term has started, they will be automatically refunded if the drop occurs within the opt-out period. If a student adds a course, then they will be automatically charged for Inclusive Access.

Can students opt-in or opt-out of the material?

Yes, students can opt-in or opt-out depending on how your course is set up. Students will receive an email explaining Inclusive Access and the opt-in or opt-out deadline.

How do students opt-out/in?

Students will receive an email explaining Inclusive Access, including the charges and courses that use it. In the middle of the email, there will be a green box labeled "View your Inclusive Access materials list." Students can click on this box to opt-in or opt-out, depending on how your course is set up.

When is the deadline to opt-out or opt-in?

The deadline for students to opt-out or opt-in for a full semester is 10 days following the first day of classes. Half-semester courses will be 5 days following the first day of class.

Will financial aid cover Inclusive Access?

Yes, financial aid will cover Inclusive Access charges.

What if a student is having trouble accessing their Inclusive Access?

If a student is having trouble, start by having them clear their cookies and cache and try using a different browser. If that doesn't work, please reach out to the UCM Store, and we can work with publishers to investigate the issue. Below is more information from each publisher.

How do I participate in Inclusive Access?

Please notify our Assistant Director of Course Materials when you submit your adoptions for the upcoming semester. They can provide you with pricing information so you can make an informed decision.

Who should I contact if I am having trouble setting up Inclusive Access?

Below are publisher help links and information. If you continue to experience trouble, please contact the UCM Store at [email protected].

General Troubleshooting

  • Ensure pop-ups are enabled: Materials can sometimes open in a new window, and if pop-ups are blocked, the content may be blocked.
  • Clear cache & cookies: Clearing the cache regularly helps increase device performance and reset any trackers and site data.
  • Switch to browser: Chrome and Firefox are recommended browsers for accessing materials.
  • Original Content link: If you are unable to access materials through a saved link or chapter link in the course, try using the main materials link within the course.
